ROOM PARENT/CLASS REP
Strengthen communications between your classroom teacher, families in your grade, and the PTO and school administration by helping organize or attend in-class and school-wide events and activities. Level of involvement will vary by individual teacher.

If you have only a few hours here and there, consider signing up to coordinate or staff an event. Great for flexible work schedules!

All parents will receive additional/more detailed opportunities to volunteer before each event via email. Please indicate your interest here, then sign up to help with a specific task closer to the event date.
Back to School Breakfast (set up or cleanup all-school playground breakfast 7:30-8:00 AM Sept 21 )
Convocation (distribute snacks to all classrooms for students following the formal ceremony kicking off the school year (mid-morning, mid-September)
School Picture Day (signup for a shift of 1 hour or more assisting photographers record photos of all students (mid-morning, October 4
Fall Fundraising Events (help coordinate a fun social gathering for families and parents)
K-3 Game Night (hosted by Grade 3 - winter)
Book Fair (sign up for a shift of a few hours - can be morning, midday or evening - a 3 day event plus setup/cleanup - early December
Friday Ice Cream Sales - help sell ice cream on Fridays at the playground - proceeds benefit PTO
Understanding Disabilities Program - assist the 4th grade curriculum by helping in classrooms - mid morning, 4 days spread out in the winter/spring
Sock Hop Dance - 8th grade parents organize this fundraiser for the NYC trip, parents needed for coordinating, setup, cleanup & staffing
CommunityFest Spring Fair for Families - activities, ticket sales, bouncy houses, etc. Stay tuned!
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon - every May our coordinators will ask for help preparing food, staffing the school, and with setup/cleanup
Graduation (7th grade parents organize and host the 8th Grade Graduation event in June)
PTO COMMITTEES, PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

Annual Fund (stuff envelopes to mail for our primary findraising appeal to all Baker parents in the Fall, support the coordinator as-needed)
K-2 Volunteer Coordinator (contact willing parent volunteers in grades K-2 before events to ensure full coverage)
Be a Welcome Family (offer one-on-one guidance to a new family - with a simple email or phone call to welcome them direct them to resources)
Welcome Families Committee/Grade and Language Captains (work with Room Parents to support incoming new families throughout the year)
Publicity (produce and distribute flyers announcing PTO events throughout school)
Directory Distribution (electronically reformat the phone and address list we receive from the town to prepare for PTO distribution)
PTO Leadership (slots are open for co-Vice Presidents who support the Presidents and assist in implementing the ongoing mission of the PTO)
Event Planning (develop new events for community-building and fundraising, assist with existing events)
Newsletter Contributors (report on current issues facing public education on the local and national level of interest to Baker parents)
ON-GOING ACTIVITIES ACROSS ALL GRADES
A good way to get involved if you can make a small but consistent commitment.
Green Team (help implement seasonal events like catalog cancelling challenge, and weekly tallies of walk-to-school days, and other similar efforts)
International Families (provide support and social gatherings for international families, organize cultural events for the school)
Arts Council (work with our new parent coordinator to bring performing arts events to student audiences at Baker)
Site Council (meet regularly with teachers and administrators to implement school improvements and Town directives)
Library Volunteer (sign up directly with the Baker Librarian to reshelve books and assist in the library)
